Calculators built around UAE rules โ€” gratuity, VAT, annual leave, zakat and more.

UAE Calculators

Why UAE-Specific Calculators?

General calculators often assume rules that don't apply in the UAE โ€” income tax on salaries, US-style sales tax, or gratuity formulas from other countries. The tools in this section use UAE rules: end-of-service gratuity of 21 days' basic salary for each of the first five years and 30 days for each year after, capped at two years' pay; VAT at the standard 5% rate; and annual leave of 30 days a year after the first year of service, as set out in Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 for the private sector.

UAE Guides

Each guide explains the rule behind a calculator, with a worked example in dirhams:

These tools cover private-sector employees under the UAE Labour Law. Government employees, free-zone rules and individual contracts can differ โ€” confirm with your HR department or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).

Using the UAE calculators correctly

UAE employment and tax rules are specific, so it helps to know what each calculator assumes.

End-of-service gratuity. For private-sector staff under the Labour Law, gratuity is based on basic salary, not allowances. As described above, it is 21 days of basic pay for each of the first five years and 30 days for each year after, capped at two years' total pay. A day's pay is usually taken as basic salary divided by 30, and gratuity normally requires at least one year of continuous service. Part years are counted in proportion.

Final settlement. On leaving, you may be owed gratuity, payment for unused annual leave, any unpaid salary, and other amounts in your contract. The Final Settlement Calculator combines these so you can see the whole picture. Deductions such as notice-period shortfalls or loans depend on your contract.

VAT. The standard rate is 5%. To add VAT, multiply the price by 1.05. To find the VAT inside a price that already includes it, multiply by 5 and divide by 105. For example, 105 AED including VAT contains 5 AED of VAT. Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt, so the 5% figure does not fit every item.

Annual leave. Leave is 30 days a year after the first year, and the value of unused days is usually calculated on basic salary ÷ 30 × days.

Limits. These tools cover typical private-sector cases. Government employees, free-zone employers and individual contracts can differ, and a contract that gives you more than the law is the one that applies. For disputes, check the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation or a qualified adviser.
