UAE Annual Leave Rules

Under Article 29 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, private-sector employees are entitled to:

  • 30 days of paid annual leave for each year of service, after completing one year.
  • 2 days per month if service is more than 6 months but less than 1 year.
  • Leave for part of the final year when employment ends, in proportion to the time worked.
  • Payment for unused leave when you leave the company, based on your basic salary.

This calculator applies those rules: no statutory leave before 6 months, 2 days per completed month up to 12 months, then 30 days per completed year plus 2.5 days (30 รท 12) for each extra month. The value of your remaining balance is basic salary รท 30 ร— days.

Many employers are more generous than the law (for example, accruing leave from the first month) โ€” your contract applies if it gives you more. Public holidays are separate from annual leave and are not deducted from it.
