How This Calculator Works

It follows Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 (the UAE Labour Law for the private sector):

  • Eligibility: at least one year of continuous service. Below one year, no gratuity is due.
  • Daily wage: monthly basic salary รท 30. Allowances such as housing and transport are not included.
  • First five years: 21 days' basic wage for each year of service.
  • Each year after five: 30 days' basic wage.
  • Part years: once you pass one year, fractions of a year are paid pro rata.
  • Unpaid leave: days of unpaid absence are not counted as service.
  • Cap: the total cannot exceed two years' basic wage (24 months).

Worked Example

A basic salary of AED 10,000 gives a daily wage of AED 333.33. For 7 years of service: 21 ร— 5 ร— 333.33 = AED 35,000 for the first five years, plus 30 ร— 2 ร— 333.33 = AED 20,000 for years six and seven โ€” a total of AED 55,000.

This is an estimate for private-sector employees under the UAE Labour Law. Government employees, some free zones (such as DIFC, which uses a savings scheme) and employees enrolled in an alternative end-of-service savings scheme follow different rules. Your employer may also deduct amounts you owe. Confirm your final figure with HR or MOHRE.

Before you calculate

Use the basic wage from your contract, your actual service dates and any unpaid absence. This tool estimates gratuity only: outstanding salary, unused leave, notice pay and deductions belong in a separate final settlement. Read our UAE resignation and final settlement guide and use the annual leave calculator to estimate the unused leave component.
