A renewal quote may combine residence fees, Emirates ID, medical screening, insurance, typing and optional services. Comparing only the final amount can hide what you are actually paying for. Start with your residence category and emirate, then request an itemised quote matched to your application rather than an online promise of one universal renewal price.

Identify the Right Renewal Route
Check the sponsor, issuing authority, permit category and expiry dates shown in your records. ICP's residence renewal service links residence processing with an Emirates ID application. Its identity-card guidance describes a unified residence and ID form outside Dubai. Dubai applicants should confirm the appropriate GDRFA/Amer residence route and ICP identity requirements.
The person arranging the application may be an employer, family sponsor or authorised representative. Ask who is responsible for submitting each step and who bears each cost under your employment or sponsorship arrangement. Do not assume a dependant's renewal budget is identical to an employee's, or that a child's process includes every adult requirement.
Published ICP Fees Are Components
ICP's residence service card lists an AED 100 application fee, AED 100 residence renewal fee per year and AED 100 smart-service fee. Its resident Emirates ID card lists AED 100 per year of residence plus AED 100 smart-application fees. These are published components, not a verified all-inclusive quote for every resident.
| Published component | ICP reference amount |
|---|---|
| Residence application | AED 100 |
| Residence renewal | AED 100 per year |
| Residence smart service | AED 100 |
| Resident Emirates ID renewal | AED 100 per year |
| ID smart application | AED 100 |
Select the relevant category on the official service and check the payment screen. Separate services may be bundled or assessed differently in your route. Medical testing, insurance, delivery, typing, permit changes and optional expedited services can affect the total. No universal all-in renewal amount or medical-test fee was verified for this guide.
Residence Grace Periods and Overstay
ICP lists category-based post-expiry or cancellation grace periods of 180, 90, 60 or 30 days. Its examples include longer periods for specified long-term residence holders and certain family categories, and different periods for skilled workers, property owners and sponsored categories. Check the category recorded for you and confirm the actual last permitted day.
The UAE Government and ICP publish an AED 50 daily residence overstay fine. For a resident with an applicable grace period, confirm when chargeable overstay begins after that period. Do not assume every person receives six months, and do not read an immigration grace period as an extension of every service or document linked to residency.
Emirates ID Delay Is a Different Calculation
ICP's identity renewal service lists an AED 20 daily delay fine, capped at AED 1,000, for exceeding the permitted renewal period where applicable. Confirm the deadline and any exemption through ICP. Do not apply the AED 50 immigration rate to an ID-only delay, or the ID cap to a residence overstay balance.
Check an official fine enquiry before paying an intermediary. If an exemption or correction may apply, ask for the authority's process and evidence requirements. A verbal assurance that fines will be removed is not an approval. Keep the application number and written outcome so later enquiries can refer to the same case.
Worked Examples: Fees and Fines Kept Separate
Illustration using the listed ICP components: for an assumed two-year renewal, residence components total AED 100 + AED 200 + AED 100 = AED 400. ID components total AED 200 + AED 100 = AED 300. Their arithmetic sum is AED 700 before other charges, only if each listed component applies separately to that route.
This is not a checkout quotation or a Dubai-wide tariff. Confirm whether the actual application bundles charges, and add only verified medical, insurance and service costs. Dividing the illustrative AED 700 by 24 gives about AED 29.17 monthly to reserve for those components alone; it would understate a budget containing additional expenses.
Separate hypothetical fine examples: ten chargeable residence-overstay days at AED 50 total AED 500. Ten chargeable ID-delay days at AED 20 total AED 200, assuming the ID fine applies. These examples do not decide when either person's grace period ends, whether exemptions apply or whether both fines arise together.
Build a Renewal Checklist Before Expiry
- Documents: check passport validity, current photo, residence records and any category-specific evidence requested.
- Medical and insurance: confirm what is required for each family member and the relevant authority.
- Processing: monitor returned applications and correction requests; payment alone does not prove approval.
- Completion: verify the new residence status, ID details and delivery information.
Leave time to correct mismatched names, expired passports or missing documents. If travel is planned, confirm the entry and renewal position before departure instead of relying solely on a pending application. Keep receipts for both government charges and any separately billed service-provider work.
